A short history of Oris
Oris has made watches in Hölstein since 1904 and is one of the few remaining Swiss brands that is genuinely independent — no conglomerate ownership, no shareholders demanding volume. In 2020 it introduced Calibre 400, an in-house automatic with a five-day power reserve, ten-year warranty and ten-year recommended service interval, which is a remarkable specification at the brand’s price point.
Which Oris model should you buy?
The Aquis is the modern dive watch: 300m water resistance, ceramic bezel, and a wide range of dial colors. The Divers Sixty-Five is its vintage-inspired sibling, smaller and dressier, and is one of the best-executed retro designs on the market. Oris deliberately makes only mechanical watches, which means every piece in the range is a genuine automatic or hand-wound movement. Because the brand does not spend at the level of its marketing-heavy competitors, more of the retail price goes into the watch itself.
